If you’re working on a heavy DIY project, using epoxy is the best way to glue metal to metal.
Here’s step-by-step instructions on how to glue metal on metal with Pattex Power Epoxy Liquid Steel Two Part Adhesive.
- Roughen the surfaces, if possible, with a scraping or sanding tool to improve adhesion.
- Clean and dry the surfaces. The metal should be completely free of dirt.
- Pre-fit the pieces to check the fit of the metal and plan where to apply adhesive.
- Open the epoxy tubes.
- Apply equal parts of resin and hardener onto a disposable surface.
- Mix together thoroughly with a stick for a minute, until you have a uniform substance.
- Close the epoxy tubes. Match the lids to the correct tubes so they don’t harden shut.
- Apply a small amount of mixed epoxy to both metal surfaces, 1-2 minutes after you’ve mixed the adhesive.
- Join the surfaces and press together. Keep them in position for about 30 minutes using a clamp or weight.
- Remove excess adhesive after 10 minutes with a sharp knife.
- Leave to cure for 24 hours before using the item.
There you have it – just as sturdy as welding, but without any heavy equipment!
